A message from the Doctors and Staff of Bayside Dentistry

We greatly miss our Bayside family of patients!

We are hoping to reopen for preventative and restorative dental procedures within the next several weeks.  In order to do so, we have implemented many changes to provide dentistry in the safest means possible. We also plan to meet or exceed all infection control standards set by the CDC as well as the ADA.

We have always taken pride in providing dentistry for our patients in a clean, comfortable, and friendly environment.

Before we reopen, we will detail for you the many changes in protective wear, equipment, and procedures we have made with our patients’ and staff’s health and well-being in mind. We all know how important excellent dental health is in maintaining overall health and a strong immune system.

We miss all of you and hope that you remain safe and well; we look forward to seeing you soon.

5 Common Causes of Hair Loss

Hair fall is a normal part of life, losing about 100 strands of hair each day. If you begin losing more hair and they’re not growing back, you might be experiencing hair loss. In men, male pattern baldness is a common occurrence when they reach the age of 40 years old and above.

Hair loss is a common predicament among men and women. There are many available treatments for hair loss, such as shampoo for hair fall available in the Philippines and procedures like hair transplant and other hair loss treatment.

Before jumping into the conventional treatments for the procedure, here are the causes of hair loss.

Hereditary Hair Loss

Further, an excess of the hormone androgen can also cause hair loss.

Stress

In many cases, stress is a driver for hair loss. Many people experience stress as a normal occurrence in life, but sometimes, it can cause distress. Stress is one of the most common causes of hair fall, but it’s just temporary. If the stressor is gone, the hair can grow back.

Underlying Medical Condition

Some medical conditions can trigger hair loss in both men and women. These include thyroid disease, scalp infections, and vitamin deficiencies. When you consult a doctor for treatment, it will also treat hair loss. Once the levels of vitamins in the body and thyroid hormones return to normal, it will stop hair fall.

Subsequently, for those with scalp infections, treating the infection can treat hair fall, too.

Age

As a person grows older, hair loss will be a common problem, especially in men. Male pattern baldness, for instance, causes hair loss in half of the men who reach the age of 50 years old. By the time they’re 70 years old, about 80% of them experience hair loss.

  1. Clint Howard – Clint Howard is one of those actors who you may not know by name, but when you see him you realize you’ve seen him in a million movies. He’s no matinee idol and he knows it, but he’s also one of the nicest, most talented guys in Hollywood. His smile is more than a little unusual, and that’s a big part of his charm.
  1. Julia Roberts – Julia Roberts is known as the “Pretty Woman” of Hollywood thanks to a big, bold smile that is larger than life. When she smiles wide, it’s as big as a fireworks display. No one has a smile like she does, which is one of the reasons why she’s a silver screen legend. Any dentist in Ocean County, NJ would be honored to have her as a patient.
  1. Miley Cyrus – For Miley, it’s not as much her smile that’s unconventional, it’s what she does with it that sets her apart. It’s also filled with tiny little nooks and crannies that create perfect places for oral problems to begin. And finally, it acts as the gateway to your insides.

Periodontal Disease

Some recent studies now prove there are links between periodontal disease and other oral afflictions, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes and Alzheimer’s. dentists have found that they can often diagnose those conditions early in part by your oral health.

Good Digestion

Your every bodily function begins and ends with your body’s ability to turn food into energy, and that entire process begins in your mouth.

Heart Disease

It might seem to be counterintuitive that these two things would be linked, but a study from 2008 in the Journal of General Internal Medicine suggested that periodontal disease was a risk factor for heart disease. A few follow-up studies also appear to show that treating periodontal disease can also lower’s a person’s risk for heart disease.

Diabetes

Diabetes shows itself in a number of ways, among them in gum inflammation. This is something your dentist might notice, allowing you to spot early warning signs of the disease.

Preterm Labor

This is another that may surprise you. We now know that pregnancy increases the risk of gum disease and other oral maladies, and further, gum disease increases the risk of low birth weight and preterm labor. So these things are linked!

Pneumonia

Earlier when we said your mouth was a good place for bacteria and germs to gather, we weren’t kidding. Under some conditions, breathing in germs may put you at an increased risk of developing pneumonia thanks to those factors. That’s a good reason to have good oral hygiene!

Osteoporosis

Current studies are still looking into this, but a few researchers believe that suffering from both osteoporosis and periodontal disease could lead to faster bone loss. That’s not really a risk you want to take then, is it?

Arthritis

This link still being studied, but it’s worth noting. A study published in the Journal of Periodontology is one of several trying to establish a connection between these two inflammatory disorders.

With all of the above in mind, it appears that a good idea is to follow the advice of your dentist in Ocean County when they tell you to do better at care of your mouth. Wouldn’t you agree?

By now you know what to do: Brush at least twice daily, ever day! Floss daily. Be sure to use mouthwash. Go for regular checkups with your dentist. Avoid food and drinks high in sugar. And so on.

Why? Because these things may seem minor, so small that sometimes you can’t be bothered to follow through, but they can play a role in protecting a much bigger, interconnected system – you body.

The New Year is here again, and you’ve got some goals in mind. Maybe you want to lose a few pounds, or read some of the classic novels, or be a more patient driver.

Believe us, as dentists serving southern Ocean County, NJ, we know many of our patients have big goals for the year ahead!

Whatever you goals, remember the following and you’ll be well prepared to ensure those New Year’s Resolutions are not mere hot air:

  1. Keep Track Of Your Successes – If you’ve resolved to read 12 classic novels this year, post about your progress to Facebook. If you want to get more exercise, keep a log of your daily progress. If you are trying to lose weight, take weekly pictures to track how you’re doing.
  1. Allow Yourself To Celebrate Achievements – The road towards your final goal may be a difficult one, so don’t be shy about patting yourself on the back now and then. Rewards for meeting key milestones – losing you first five pounds, running a mile for the first time, going three months without alcohol, etc. – are well-earned. Give yourself a day off from work, go shopping, or some other reward that won’t set you back.
  1. Be Ready To Reassess – Making big changes in your life is a noble goal, but big changes often come with roadblocks you may not have foreseen. That’s okay. Be prepared to periodically reassess your goals and to adjust them as necessary. That’s not failure, it’s simply being smart and realistic.

How To Take Good Care Of Your Toothbrush

Never forget: your toothbrush is your most important tool when it comes to maintaining a healthy mouth and a bright, clean smile. Everyone at your dentist office near Forked River will confirm this.

With that in mind, it goes without saying that you have to take good care of your toothbrush in order to be sure your toothbrush takes good care of you. Any dentist near Manahawkin has likely seen countless toothbrushes that after many years of use now look like a complete messrather than the well-designed cleaning tool they are meant to be.

That’s not good, because brushes that are in badshape don’t do as good a job of keeping your mouth clean and healthy and helping you maintain good oral hygiene.

In order to avoid your toothbrush becoming a mess that does more harm than good, follow these simple tips:

Never share your toothbrush – Your mouth is loaded with bacteria of all types, and brushing can sometimes lead to minor bleeding, usually so minor you can’t even see it. Even a little is enough to help aid the transmission of bacteria from one mouth to another, though, and that’s not a good thing. Remember, your toothbrush is for you and you only. And never use someone else’s and don’t let other people use yours!

Always rinse the brush after you’re done – Residue left behind by toothpaste or your mouth can make your toothbrush a breeding ground for bacteria, plus it can also accelerate the breakdown of your brush’s bristles. Just like your mouth, it’s important to keep your brush clean!

To combat microorganism growth, don’t store your brush in a closed container – Those closed containers are like breeding grounds for bacterial growth. They can be GROSS! It’s fine to use them for a day or so when traveling, but you should never store your toothbrush in a closed container for longer than that. If you do, you’ll actually be making your mouth LESS healthy.

Replace your brush every few months – Modern brushes are tough and resilient, but regardless, you should replace them every few months in order to be sure they are doing the best job possible of keeping your teeth clean. A new brush is much more effective than an old one.

Let the bristles do the work – Aggressive brushing is not only bad for your tooth enamel, it’s bad for your toothbrush, too. It can ruin your bristles and impact the lifespan of your brush. Instead, brush gently and let the bristles do their job. It’s what they are designed for!

Always keep in mind that your toothbrush is an important tool in your regular oral health routine. Treat it badly and it will treat your mouth badly in return. Treat it right and it will treat your mouth right – and that will make your dentist near Manahawkin very happy!
